Abstract

The tectonic deformation zone of the link of the Western and Central-Western Seismotectonic Units of Cuba is described for the first time. In it there are 8 articulation knots, 8 blocks and 6 active faults, all segmented. Its seismic activity, from medium to low levels, is justified by the transmission of tectonic forces from the contact, to the south, of the North American and Caribbean plates and the collision with geological structures to the north. In this region there are several important populations: Havana City, Matanzas and Cienfuegos, among others. In addition, there has been done preliminary studies for possible sitting two nuclear centers for energy development, for peaceful purposes.
