Abstract

The analysis of trade in Latin America and the Caribbean makes it possible to establish the relative position of each member country as to the importance of trade flows to the economy of each nation and the region. Based on World Bank data, the countries with the highest exports and imports in the region are Mexico and Brazil, the region is characterized by a deficit in most of the period 2000-2018 and trade opening in the region is greater for Central American countries. The region mainly has service exporting countries and it is possible to establish an inverse relationship between applied tariffs and economic growth by 2011.
