Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos

The IACHR is a leading and autonomous body of the Organization of American States (OAS) responsible for the promotion and protection of human rights in the Americas. It consists of seven independent members who serve in a personal manner and is based in Washington, D.C. It was created by the OAS in 1959 and, in conjunction with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (CorteIDH), established in 1979, is an institution of the Inter-American System for the Protection of Human Rights (SIDH).
