Anxiety and depression are psychopathologies that can be found in university students; said psychopathologies can harm their academic performance. This scholarly article seeks to demonstrate how anxiety and depression influence the academic performance of university students. For this purpose, a review of different authors was carried out to prove that anxiety and depression are the main psychopathologies related to low educational performance, due to their symptomatology. In addition, other psychological factors are addressed, including stress and burnout. Likewise, aspects such as family environment, economy and the active and collaborative relationship between students and faculty are also discussed. In addition, student failure is seen as a consequence of a low educational development. The relationship between anxiety and depression was confirmed as well as its incidence on academic performance in higher education students.
