Abstract

Given the environmental problems of Yaguajay and the presence of sites such as protected areas and ecological reserves, radio communication, specifically environmental communication, contributes to the care of the environment in this town.
The objective of the research is to describe how the radio station “La Voz de Yaguajay” contributes to the care of the environment of the people of Yaguajay through its programming. The Mixed methodology was used with a descriptive study, applying the Ethnographic method, techniques: Participant Observation, Program Checklist, In-depth Interview, Document Analysis, Triangulation. The result was that despite the fact that environmental communication is addressed in different ways, there are no complete programs dedicated to the environment. Standing out in those with the highest audience and treatment of the subject in the programming schedule, two sections of short programs. On the other hand, the station's actions to contribute to caring for the environment include interviews with guests on programs with involvement, public opinion polls and the dissemination of emblematic natural sites in the Yaguajay territory. This contributes to the project "Documenting Experiences in the Yaguajay Case." In conclusion, it is necessary to promote more radio programs with environmental themes.
