In this review article, historical events of development
in society, science and philosophy are analyzed. The
methodological basis of this work is the study of the
bibliographical literature, and this is organized in 3
fragments: initial, tries to refute the question: ¿What are the development approaches? the times and
spaces of the interventions are addressed. The second
deals with development from the perspective of
Norman Long and Max Weber, with special emphasis
on the types of analysis oriented towards actors with
different interests and knowledge, where research
is focused on development and modernization
processes as a field of study. battle of knowledge
in the extension. And finally, the third, where the
contributions of Pablo Freire to Rural Extension
as educational mediation and its link to University
Extension are addressed. The prevailing realities and
the decline of societies make development a complex
and difficult subject to learn. Since the theoretical and
political debate on development began academics
and scientists from all disciplines, and more from the
social sciences, have contributed to the conceptual
and theoretical understanding of development, but,
they have not yet paid attention to social problems
of all dimensions. But Amartya Sen's contributions
are the closest to Latin American realities. From this
perspective, it is necessary to identify, based on the
literature found, the paradigms of development and
the way in which universities have promoted their role
in Extension, contributing significantly to the debate.
