Biostimulant for growth and yield of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) crop based on amino acids and rhizobacteria

The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is one of the staple legumes grown throughout the country on various scales, given its importance in the Nicaraguan diet; therefore, alternatives such as the use of biostimulants are needed to help increase yields. The objective of this study was to evaluate three doses of an amino acid and rhizobacteria based biostimulant applied to the seed at planting, with the aim of reducing production costs and the use of synthetic fertilizers in bean cultivation systems. The study was conducted in the municipality of Santa Cruz, department of Estelí, in the north-central region of Nicaragua. A completely randomized block design experiment was established; the treatments evaluated were based on 100 kilograms of seed and were: 1) 600 grams, 2) 800 grams, 3) 1000 grams, and 4) Absolute control (no product applied). The variables evaluated were germination percentage, stem diameter, plant height, root length, number of nodules, yield, and the slenderness, stem, root, and Dickson quality indices. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance and Tukey’s multiple range test at a 95% confidence level. No significant differences were observed among the treatment levels, but differences were noted compared to the absolute control, with improvements in germination and vegetative growth parameters, as well as in the slenderness index, stem root index, Dickson quality and yield. The use of biostimulants is a viable alternative for producers as a biological option for vegetative and root growth, promoting the safe use of biostimulants in bean cultivation.
