About the Journal

Objective, focus and scope

La Calera is a national and regional publication on advances and applications of agricultural and forestry sciences in Nicaragua, to encourage the use of Natural Resources more in line with the ecological possibilities and social needs of the region. It is aimed at meeting the information needs of researchers, extension agents, technicians, agronomists, zootechnists, veterinary doctors, foresters and planners in the field of agricultural sciences and natural resources.

Copyright Statement

Through this, the author or authors of the writings (contributions) grant to the National Agrarian University the rights of publication (copyright) of the article submitted, so that the university has the exclusive right to publish the article during the full period of copyright. These copyrights include electronic and print reproduction, storage, retrieval, all forms of electronic publishing and any other type of publication.

The authors certify that the writing is original and that it has not been published before, they also ensure that it is not subject to evaluation and possible publication in other journals or electronic sites. All authors express that they are knowledgeable about the article and authorize its publication and citations.

 The author or authors authorize the National Agrarian University to protect the article against unauthorized use and authorize it to be disseminated by printed or electronic means (PDF, HTML, EPUB, XML or others) and secondary information sources such as summaries and databases.

License Statement

La Calera, with the aim of promoting knowledge sharing, is an open access publication, which allows its content to be available for free. This provision is based on the one established in the Budapest declaration (BOAI, 2002) in which it is conceived as open access to free availability on the internet, so that users of La Calera magazine can read, download, copy , distribute, print and link the full texts in their different formats (PDF, HTML, EPUB, XML), without prior authorization from the editor or author, although it would be appreciated if the editor was informed at the address edgardo.jimenez@ci.una.edu.ni 

The articles of the magazine La Calera of the National Agrarian University, Nicaragua, are shared under the terms of the Creative Commons license: Recognition, Non-Commercial, Share Alike.

Publication frequency

Its periodicity is semiannual; It is published in the first semester in the month of June and in the second semester in November. Publish a print version with ISSN 1998-7846 and an electronic version with ISSN 1998-8850 

Editorial Policy Statement

The editorial team is responsible for reviewing the proposals once received through the electronic address diep@ci.una.edu.ni or  roberto.larios@ci.una.edu.niand in correspondence with the guide for collaborators or instructions to the authors described in the link https://www.lamjol.info/index.php/CALERA/about/submissions

 If it meets the criteria, journal policy, and writing instructions, the review is continued by experts or external peers selected for their academic training and publications in scientific journals. The works are submitted to arbitration in anonymity (double blind review system), so the writings are sent to two specialists on the subject for review, suggestions, modifications, approval or rejection. The evaluation is based on evaluation criteria defined by the journal.

 The authors receive a communication, from the journal's writing, about the results of the evaluation and about the acceptance or rejection decision under the following conditions: accepted with minor adjustments, accepted with major adjustments, accepted, rejected. The main editor of the magazine, after a session with the editorial committee, decides the publication of the document.

 The time requested to the evaluators for the review and verdict of the proposals is a maximum of thirty days, indicating that the review is collaborative with the magazine, and if it is not possible to meet this deadline, they are requested to inform, to send the writing to another evaluator and ensure compliance with the periodicity of the journal.

Plagiarism Detection Policies

The contributions made to the magazine La Calera of the National Agrarian University, are submitted to the Turnitin Feedback Studio system. The editor of the magazine loads the contribution to the system and generates a similarity report comparing the article with three large data sources:

                                 2.Indexed Articles

                                 3.Database of shipments to the system.

 If the work is considered to have total or partial reproduction of other investigations, the report of similarity will be sent to the author (s) to provide proof of originality or make the pertinent corrections to the manuscript.

The author will provide the necessary proofs or corrections and send them to the main editor of the journal, who will make an assessment and make the decision to reject or continue the process of editing the contribution.

 Code of ethics

The scientific magazine La Calera, publication of the National Agrarian University, in correspondence with good practices in the edition of scientific journals and in order to ensure the quality of its publications, as a commitment to the scientific community and society in general, takes as reference the code of conduct and good practices defined by the Ethics Committee in Publications (COPE)  https://www.um.es/ead/red/etica_cope.pdf, based on guidelines referring to: general duties and responsibilities of the editors, relations with the readers, authors, reviewers and editorial board, editorial process, peer review, quality assurance, promotion of ethical research, intellectual property, among others.

 La Calera guarantees the protection and respect for the content of the articles published in relation to the laws and rules of intellectual property, originality and access and reuse policies.

 Digital preservation policies

To preserve digitally the articles of the magazine La Calera are transformed to the XML format with JATS specification.

The transformation of each article is done using open access tools available on the web.

During the transformation process (XML markup) the following elements are identified to be marked:

  1. Article title (English, Spanish)
  2. Abstracts (English, Spanish)
  3. Keywords (English, Spanish)
  4. Names and Surname of authors
  5. Full affiliation of the authors
  6. ORCID of each author
  7. Digital Object Identifier (DOI)
  8. Date of acceptance
  9. Date received
  10. Financing

Marking of each element of the reference list is performed and external link to websites and digital objects included in the references is generated.

It marks all the full text, provides internal links to references, images, tables, figures and tables verifying the integrity with the original format.

The images must be of high quality with dimensions of 442px wide by 265px high and not larger than 1Mb.

On the other hand, La Calera has the following forms of protection of its publications:

  1. Internally: it has storage on external hard drives that update its content quarterly.
  2. Institutional Safeguard: the articles of the magazine are protected in the RiUNA Institutional Repository.
  3. National Reserve: the articles of the magazine are deposited in the Portal of Magazines of Nicaragua.
  4. International Safeguard: the articles of the magazine are protected in CAMJOL (Central American Journals Online).
  5. Backup in Cloud Storage Services (the cloud): magazine articles are protected in various Cloud Storage Services.
