Abstract

The broad mite (white mite (Poliphagotarsonemus latus, Bank)), is among other pests, one of the most severe phytosanitary problems of green pepper (Capsicum annuum, L.) in Tisma, Masaya. These pests have caused important economic losses, diminishing the quality of the fruits and increasing the production costs. In view of this problem in the municipality of Tisma, a study was realized in the period between the months of September to December 2009, where some botanical and chemical synthetics pesticides for the handling of the white mite and other pests were evaluated. The evaluated pesticides were: Oberon, Chili+Garlic+Soap, Rienda, Vertimec, and Ammonium Sulphate. The results obtained in the study indicate that the treatment Rienda was the treatment with better control in handling white mite and other pests compared to the control treatment; since plants treated with this product, presented smaller number of mites, aphids, whiteflies and trips per plant, in comparison with the other evaluated products. The treatments that obtained the best yields in kg ha-1 were Vertimec and Oberon, followed by Ammonium Sulphate. In the analysis of rate of marginal return, the treatment Vertimec was the one that obtained the best result compared to the other evaluated treatments.
