*Ciencia, Cultura y Sociedad* is a biannual open-access scientific journal operating under a diamond open-access model and a rolling-acceptance system, managed by the Publications Office of the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Outreach at the Evangelical University of El Salvador (UEES).

Its objective is to strengthen, encourage, evaluate, and disseminate scientific output and research activity, ensuring that it is discoverable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable by the academic community and society. This purpose focuses on the fields of Social Sciences, Economics, Engineering, and Legal Sciences and their various specialties as the journal’s central thematic areas, in line with the principles of social responsibility that govern institutions of higher education. In this way, it seeks to make the knowledge generated available to serve the academic community and society at large.

The journal accepts contributions from diverse geographical contexts, aimed at strengthening the exchange and construction of scientific knowledge. Manuscripts containing politically, religiously, culturally, or economically oriented content that promotes confrontation, devaluation, or any form of disparagement will not be accepted.

About the Review Process

The journal Ciencia, Cultura y Sociedad adopts the double-blind peer review system, in which authors and reviewers remain mutually anonymous. This approach is implemented to ensure objective evaluation processes, reducing potential biases and subjective assessments.

However, depending on specific editorial requirements, alternative review methods may be used, such as the single-blind system or open peer review, without compromising the standards of quality, academic rigor, and professionalism that characterize the editorial process.

The journal Ciencia, Cultura y Sociedad is a diamond open-access publication, independent of government agencies and external business entities, and unaffiliated with any particular interests regarding specific topics. Likewise, it maintains an editorial stance free from political, religious, partisan, or economic affiliations, ensuring neutrality and integrity in the management and dissemination of scientific knowledge.

The journal aims to contribute to the analysis of the country’s diverse realities through the publication of scientific articles, in accordance with the guidelines of the institutional research policy. Within this framework, it promotes a systemic and sequential approach that integrates the functions of fostering, promoting, evaluating, disseminating, and publishing research, linking institutional lines and projects with teaching and social outreach, and focused on strengthening human talent in research.

Additionally, it considers key aspects such as research funding and the diversification of its sources, ensuring the sustainability of scientific activity. Collectively, these efforts aim to ensure that the dissemination and promotion of knowledge contribute to the training of well-rounded professionals, with access to quality information and a future-oriented perspective.

Objective of the Journal

To promote the visibility of the scientific output of internal and external researchers, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, ensuring appropriate review processes. Likewise, to serve as a platform for the dissemination of institutional research conducted by the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Outreach at the Evangelical University of El Salvador (UEES), together with research centers, various academic units, and departments that generate research within the institution.

Frequency of the Journal

The journal Ciencia, Cultura y Sociedad is published biannually, releasing two issues per year: the first covering the period from January to June and the second from July to December, a format implemented beginning with Volume 9 in 2014.

It also operates under a rolling submission system, meaning the journal accepts manuscripts year-round; however, it issues specific calls for papers that formally define the opening and closing periods for submission.

Target Audience

The journal *Science, Culture, and Society* is primarily aimed at the academic community in the fields of the social sciences, economics, engineering, and legal studies, along with their various specializations, with an initial focus on the institutional academic community. However, it is also open to anyone interested in expanding their knowledge in scientific, technical, and professional fields, both within the Salvadoran context and internationally.

Policies on Use and Reuse

The journal Ciencia, Cultura y Sociedad, with the firm aim of promoting the exchange of knowledge, is an open-access publication, ensuring that its content is available free of charge and is useful to the academic community. This approach is based on the principles established in the Budapest Declaration (BOAI, 2002), which defines open access as free and unrestricted availability on the Internet. Accordingly, users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, and link to the full texts in their various formats, provided that the source is properly cited.

In line with its diamond open access model, the journal does not charge editorial processing fees or publication costs for articles, ensuring equity in the dissemination of scientific knowledge.

Code of Ethics

Revista Ciencia, Cultura y Sociedad is committed to the highest standards of ethics in scientific publishing, guaranteeing integrity, transparency, and quality in all its editorial processes. The journal is governed by the international guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

All manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and based on accurate data; practices such as plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of information are prohibited. Additionally, authors are required to disclose conflicts of interest, sources of funding, and compliance with ethical principles in research involving humans or animals, in accordance with current international regulations.

The peer-review process is conducted under criteria of confidentiality, impartiality, and academic rigor, ensuring that editorial decisions are based exclusively on scientific merit. Authors, reviewers, and editors must act responsibly, objectively, and with respect for the confidentiality of the process.

The editorial team guarantees transparent and fair processes and will address any indication of scientific or editorial misconduct in accordance with national and international guidelines through clear, documented, and equitable procedures.

This code is mandatory for all participants in the editorial process, reinforcing the journal’s commitment to good scientific publishing practices and the principles of open science.

Scientific Integrity: Content must be original, truthful, and free from fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data.

Transparency: Sources of funding, conflicts of interest, and ethical approvals must be disclosed when applicable.

Impartiality: Editorial decisions are based exclusively on academic merit, without discrimination of any kind.

Confidentiality: Information regarding manuscripts is safeguarded throughout the entire editorial process.

Accountability: All parties involved (authors, reviewers, and editors) must adhere to good ethical practices.

Responsibilities of Authors:
Submit original and unpublished work.
Avoid plagiarism, duplication, and fragmentation of publications.
Ensure proper attribution of authorship.
Declare conflicts of interest and sources of funding.
Ensure compliance with ethical principles in research involving humans or animals.

Reviewers’ Responsibilities:

Evaluate manuscripts with objectivity, academic rigor, and confidentiality.
Declare conflicts of interest.
Contribute to the scientific improvement of the work through well-founded observations.

Responsibilities of the Editorial Board

Ensure fair, transparent, and timely review processes.
Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts.
Address potential cases of misconduct in accordance with institutional committee guidelines, escalating to COPE as necessary.
Ensure compliance with international standards for scientific publication.
Handling of Misconduct
Any case of plagiarism, data manipulation, improper authorship, or ethical conflict will be handled in accordance with the international protocols established by COPE, ensuring a fair, transparent, and documented process.

 

Plagiarism Detection Policy

The journal *Ciencia, Cultura y Sociedad* ensures the originality of manuscripts by applying similarity detection mechanisms using Turnitin software. All submitted manuscripts undergo this process as a mandatory part of the initial editorial review.

Practices such as plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, and the improper use of sources without proper citation are considered unacceptable. Similarity reports are analyzed by the editorial team, which evaluates the nature and context of the detected matches.

If evidence of misconduct is identified, the manuscript may be rejected, returned for corrections, or subjected to further review. If plagiarism is detected after publication, the journal will proceed in accordance with international guidelines on editorial ethics, which may include retraction of the article.

This policy is mandatory for all authors and is part of the journal’s commitment to academic integrity and good practices in scientific communication.

 

Digital Preservation Policy

Revista Ciencia, Cultura y Sociedad ensures the long-term preservation of its digital content through the implementation of backup and archiving systems that guarantee the integrity, availability, and accessibility of scientific information.

The journal uses digital preservation mechanisms based on international standards, including preservation networks such as the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) and/or LOCKSS, which enable the secure and distributed preservation of content.

Likewise, the journal maintains periodic backups and ensures the stability of digital formats in order to guarantee permanent access to published articles, in accordance with the principles of open science and scientific communication.
