Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze the influence of the covid-19 pandemic on electoral abstentionism in Mexico, taking as a reference the local electoral process of Hidalgo and Coahuila in 2020 and the Federal one in 2021. The methodology used is the exploratory analysis of data and of the social and political environment at the national level. The results of the last electoral processes
in Mexico show that electoral abstentionism is still manifested in the democratic life of the country and that it has increased as a result of the covid-19 pandemic. Due to the experience lived with the 2020 electoral process, the INE (National Electoral Institute) is at a decisive moment to choose the way to carry out the 2021 federal electoral process taking into account
As strategic options, the application of hygiene measures in polling stations and electronic voting.
