The article reviews the bibliography that has studied the causes of the coup d'état against President Arturo Araujo, who governed El Salvador from March 1st to December 2nd, 1931. The review is carried out in the historical order in which they were postulated to determine whether, over the years, some consensus has been reached on the causes of the military insurrection and whether it is a consistent agreement. The article suggests the need to reevaluate some of the hypotheses postulated considering new evidence available after many documents from that time have been digitized and made accessible, particularly the newspaper Patria. It emphasizes the needs for a more detailed study of the lack of transparency in the management of public debt — internal and external—, attempted by President Araujo, as a cause of his downfall.
