Abstract

The purpose of this study was to characterize informational competences (IC) of first-year university students from Colombia, based on practices established with the sources of information. The research methodology was based on observational study, and focused on descriptive approach; which indicates that the instrumentation used had two characteristics: data collection and registration.

The results allowed the identification of three informational competence (IC) profiles: Collect, select and analyze the information. These results were analyzed according to adhesion in relation to presumptions of information competences, and the potentiated mode for the context of middle-level education. It is concluded that the adhesions and presumptions that conform the potential modality of informational competence manifest themselves as part of the experience that the students have had in the way how they interact with the information and how they use it.
