This document starts from the hypothesis that, despite some political and legal advancements in promoting women’s political participation in El Salvador, there are still certain economical social and cultural patterns that marginalize women from the local political sphere. This research has two main objectives. The first one is to systematize and organize existing informations about women in charge of power at local level. The second one is to identify which are the main barriers for women to access in politics, the factors that favor women’s political participation at municipal level.
