Abstract

The territorial balance and classification of public spaces in the city of Copán Ruins are analyzed in the research project “Distribution of Public Spaces in the City of Copán Ruins for the Analysis of the Territorial Balance of the Cultural and Recreational Offer of the City, 2019”, to know the availability of the city’s sports, cultural and recreational offer and its classification according to the type of administration. To realize the objective, the tools provided by the geographic information system software have been used methodologically to analyze the concentration and dispersion of the sports, cultural and recreational infrastructure in relation to the city center and the classification of public spaces according to the type of activity and its nature. For operational purposes, two classifications of public spaces have been identified, one of a cultural nature, since it is the city of Copán Ruins as it is the headquarters of the World Heritage category considering criteria dictated by UNESCO.
