Abstract

This document presents the results of the study entitled “Characterization of Radio Noise in UHF 406 - 410 MHZ”, this study is of primordial importance in the stages prior to the implementation of a Radio Telescope. No such study has been carried out in our country at any frequency or range of frequencies intended for the Radio Astronomy Service, a service which was jointly defined by the International Astronomical Union and the International Telecommunication Union (IAU and ITU) in English, respectively). The main objective of the study was to determine the radioelectric conditions prevailing in the city of Tegucigalpa, specifically in the Central American Astronomical Observatory of Suyapa (OACS), in other words, the radioelectric environment to which any signal from a celestial source, emitted in frequency band of 406 - 410 MHz, would be exposed. The data were obtained through monitoring techniques established in the “Handbook Spectrum Monitoring”, published by ITU in 2011 and equipment certified by ITU for this kind of studies. The study shows that the location of the Central American Astronomical Observatory of Suyapa (OACS) presents a very high Noise Level, above the sensitivity of the equipment used, however, signals from sources such as the Sun and other in the Milky Way are feasible to be received and processed with the required corrections.
