In 2016, the University Observatory of Territorial Ordering (OUOT) of the UNAH, with the financial support of OXFAM and the technological support of the Clark University, carried out a study based on the Geographic Information Sciences (CIG) to determine the current and prospective state of mining in Honduras, as well as its territorial conflict and indicators to monitor it in areas where mining is excluded. With the territorial indicators and results of the study, an interactive web mining map was created to monitor that the mining progress in Honduras does not generate territorial, environmental and social conflicts. The products of the study have been socialized with indigenous communities, NGOs, academia, international cooperation and the International Geographical Union (UGI) at the International Conference “Geographies for Peace”, held in Bolivia in 2017.
