Abstract

In August of 2009, Honduras as a country was accepted as National Member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU). This was an important event for the national astronomical community gathered in the Astronomical Honduran Committee (CHA, in Spanish) and Member of the Central American Assembly of Astronomers (AAAC, in Spanish). Here we present, a brief description of what the IAU is, and several documents of great significance in the History of Astronomy in Honduras. It have been included from the Honduras Application to be a National Member of the IAU; to the official letter of the IAU informing that Honduras was accepted as National Member of the IAU with interim status and the Observatorio Astronómico Centroamericano de Suyapa, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (OACS/UNAH) as the Adhering Organization.
