Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Author Guidelines

Encuentro is a quarterly scientific publication of the Universidad Centroamericana (UCA). Unpublished articles and essays published in Spanish or English that are the result of research empirical or theoretical or philosophical about any aspect of Nicaraguan reality or America. Regularly includes original articles, research developments, articles review, book reviews, lectures, short communications and specific sections commissioned by the Editorial Committee.
In exceptional cases, when warranted as broadcast, are articles that have been published previously published in media whose readers segment does not match the Encuentro.
All articles will be published later in any medium, provided the author give consent and provide the data of its publication in Encuentro.

Types of Items

  1. Original Articles: Should be presented in Spanish or English and have a length of between 3.000 and 10.000 words (including references and attachments of any kind). The manuscript should have the following sections: Front page, abstract, text, references.
    Front Page: Include the title of the article in Spanish and English names of authors in the order they appear in the publication, the affiliation of each (Institution, department, city, country), full mailing address of the author including address, telephone and email.
    Summary: You will have a maximum of 250 words. Do not include references or abbreviations. Below the abstract you should include 3 to 5 keywords.
    Abstract: This is an English translation of the abstract and keywords.
    Text: Each section will be have a suitable heading. Subsections should be properly sub-titled.
    References: They must be structured according to APA standards.
  2. Research advances, will be between 3.000 and 5.000 words (including references bibliography and annexes of any kind). The manuscript should have the same sections of the original article.
  3. Review articles: They will have between 3,000 and 5,000 words (including references bibliography and annexes of any kind). The manuscript should have the same sections of the original article.
  4. Book reviews, lectures and short communications: The maximum length 3,000 words. Should include information about the authors.

Instructions to authors
All manuscripts must use the APA style (American Psychological Association) both for quotations in the text and for drawing up the list of references. Failure to fulfill these requirements by the Editorial Committee will mean a return of the original to the authors for you to conform to that standard.

Editorial Process: All original papers will be reviewed anonymously by reviewers experts who will decide whether to recommend the publication of the manuscript. During the editorial process the editor will correspond with the authors.
