Abstract

This research aims to know the perceptions regarding subjective well-being meaning and dimensions, in women living in the village of La Calera, Tegucigalpa, Honduras. It’s based on an interpretive paradigm with a qualitative approach and has a phenomenological research design. The selection of the participants was conducted through a non-probabilistic sampling, considering the principles of theoretical saturation. It was found that happiness is defined as a positive attribution, which includes peace in personal and social level. Also the importance of the family is stated in terms of welfare and emotional reciprocity. The relevance of spirituality is mentioned and associated with an external locus of control. Labor is perceived as a means to attain economic income used to satisfy first order needs, but some people mention that it is not decisive for happiness, even though its absence can negatively affect well-being. These results are discussed based on their theoretical and methodological implications.
