Population aging is part of the demographic evolution and the increase of this population is related to the quality of life. For Ecuador this constitutes one of the challenges of the 21st century, due to its repercussions on the development of the country and the variety of sectors involved: health, education, social assistance, infrastructure, among others. The challenge is to face this social phenomenon with strategies and actions that guarantee a dignified life for the elderly. Based on the articulation of the substantive functions of the university context, this research aims to design a program for the prevention and reduction of stress levels in the elderly in order to contribute to their quality of life. The present study was conducted under a quantitative approach with a descriptive and documentary perspective. It was concluded that the elderly experience a significant proportion of stress due to the difficulties inherent to this stage and that education within the aging process favors a better understanding of the reality they face, in addition to this, social activities contribute to satisfactory aging in relation to the level and characteristics of the activities.
