Abstract

The municipality of Gibara (Cuba) has a group of buildings that have acquired a value greater than the one originally assigned, be it cultural, emotional, physical, intangible, historical or technical, which goes far beyond the original commission. Nowadays, it is urgent the knowledge, diffusion and preservation of these works since they constitute an essential premise for the socioeconomic development and the reaffirmation of the cultural identity of the municipality. A role of utmost importance to achieve the previously mentioned must be played by the teachers of the family: “Construction” of the Polytechnic Center: “José Ávila Serrano” during the initial professional training process of the Civil Construction Technician in terms of knowledge, skills, values and modes of action related to the History of Architecture of the municipality. The previously exposed is not adequately achieved due to the lack of knowledge and disinterest of the teachers on this subject. Taking into account this problem, the professional improvement program “History of the Architecture of the Municipality of Gibara” was designed. It is conceived from a professional and systemic approach of the built context because it is based on the requirements demanded by the educational practice and integrates teaching with work, research and extension.
