Abstract

The pedagogical basis of the formation process of the professional competence in care for the elderly of the residents physicians doctors in General Comprehensive Medicine belonging to the “Máximo Gómez Báez” polyclinic of Holguin municipality, Cuba; which is based on a dynamic of higher medical education in alternation that allows harmonizing and integrating in a contextualized way higher medical teaching with education at work and research, from the connection between the instructive educational and professional growth dimension, constitutes the contribution of the present article and its main result. In order to obtain the declared result, a qualitative documentary research of interpretative- comprehensive type was developed, using the methods of analysis and synthesis, inductive-deductive and document review. As a result of the research process, it was possible to confirm the high relevance of the theoretical and methodological foundation that emerge from Professional Pedagogy as a science for the understanding of the professional competence formation process in the resident physician of the General Comprehensive Medical specialty, and in particular that which refers the care of the elderly as a specific professional competence.
