This document focuses on the results obtained from the archaeological project called "Recognition and documentation of archaeological sites in the municipality of Santa María, Nueva Segovia". The purpose of the study was to register and document the iconic archaeological sites of the municipality, in order to have a technical scientific document on its archaeological patrimony, and to serve as support in the definition of municipal development strategies. This document includes some preventive measures for the protection and dissemination of this cultural resource, especially in those sites with the potential to be integrated into the municipality's tourism strategy. It is important to emphasize that the project arose in response to the request made by the Municipal Government of Santa María of Nueva Segovia to the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua with headquarters in Managua (UNAN-Managua) and was executed in April 2021 under the direction of the Archaeological Center of Documentation and Research CADI of the Faculty of Humanities and Legal Sciences of this same university.
