This research was carried out in the municipality of Tola, department of Rivas, with the objective of investigating the teaching-learning processes in the subject History of Nicaragua, History of America and Universal History, through the life stories of three teachers of Secondary Education. This research arose from the need to know and value the work of the teachers who taught the subject History. The study is based on the interpretative paradigm, in which the didactic methodologies used by the History teachers are compiled. It is a retrospective inquiry, based on the teaching experiences narrated by the teachers in the decade that they taught in the 1990s. To carry out this study, oral history was used as a research method and the qualitative research approach, using life history as a research technique. As main findings we can mention that in the 90’s the teaching of History subjects was traditional, based on memorization and use of textbooks, elaboration of summaries and research in the library of the School Center. Moreover, it was a non-free education, based on the precepts of “school autonomy” and with high rates of teacher empiricism.
