Abstract

Commenting on literary texts is a crucial skill that professionals in Hispanic Language and Literature must master, as it allows them to perform critical and reflective analysis, as well as develop literary criticism and promote critical-reflective thinking. This article focused on determining the limitations of students studying Hispanic Language and Literature at UNAN-Managua/CUR-Estelí in writing literary text commentaries. In accordance with the philosophical approach, this study is qualitative. Qualitative techniques and instruments were applied, such as interviews, observations, and focus groups with key informants, and a documentary analysis of articles, books, theses, and reports related to the topic was carried out. The main results show that students face some limitations in composing literary text commentaries, such as difficulty in understanding central ideas and contextualizing, lack of critical argumentation, writing, and expression. One of the main findings highlighted in the article is that teachers should focus on improving the learning process of text commentary to strengthen the deep and meaningful understanding of any text according to its type: lyrical, dramatic, or narrative.
