Abstract

The present study entitled “Experience of adults diagnosed with HIV positive from Juigalpa Chontales”, the aim was to analyze the perceptions of stigma and discrimination experienced by adults diagnosed with HIV who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. The type of research is qualitative with phenomenological design. The sample consisted of five key informants between the ages of 25 and 50, who were chosen by non-probabilistic sampling for convenience. The technique used was the in-depth interview helped by an instrument to guide the questions. Among the most important considerations are: People with HIV identify themselves with different topics that are eventually forms of stigma manifestation, coping and consequences. Participants report experiences of rejection in their social and work environment, and lack a coping mechanism, both at the time of knowing its diagnosis and in its evolution, depression, anger and fear of death being the most frequent manifestations. Most people with HIV/AIDS participating in this research have understood the importance of living a quiet and risk-free life, this contributes a favorable attitude to improve their quality of life.
