Vindication of the Afro in two Works of Celeste Woss and Jaime Colson during the Dominican nationality construction under Trujillo’s dictatorship

The construction of the national representation passes through different social contexts, among them cultural and artistic. While the image that will represent a country it develops through a specific political project, which only includes aspects that intended highlighting the political elite and also intervenes economic interests, it is presented some groups trying to vindicate those populations refused and invisible. In this sense, the present paper reflects about some Dominican works of art developed during and after the Trujillo’s government that, in despite of the violent context of the dictatorship, depicts everyday life and the societ which coexists into the Dominican territory, a heterogeneous society with diverse cultural heritages, as it is the Afro case.
