By way of introduction"It has always identified us as a politically rebellious society against the traditional system ..." said a chalchuapaneco, retired teacher and now merchant. This is not the first time I hear that identification of some of the chalchuapanecos wielding a self-proclaimed "rebellious identity." The municipality of Chalchuapa, Department of Santa Ana, is located in western Salvadoran territory, about 10 kilometers from the border with Guatemala and 70 kilometers from the city of San Salvador Chalchuapa is located. Enough to know a little about the recent history of Chalchuapa to realize its location as a site boundary between two national states, he played an important role in many of the battles between liberals and conservatives, liberals or between supporters of the two countries, that arose during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
