Abstract

New York is among the four most important destinations for Central American immigrants from the 60 Hundreds of thousands of men and women who left the land of their birth, now see their gardens bloom: Professional children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren who contribute to development of the Hispanic community in New York. According to US census population of 2000 and 2009, the state ranks third in the Salvadoran migration, after California and Texas; for Hondurans and Guatemalans, it is the fourth favorite destination. For Hondurans, after Texas, Florida and California. For Guatemalans, behind California, Florida and Texas.

The migratory flow, especially the Northern Triangle of Central America (Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras), is recent, compared with other pioneering countries like Puerto Rico, according to the study "US Immigration Policy and Mexican / Central American Migration Flows: Then and Now, the Migration Policy Institute and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
