Abstract

This paper is a paper presented at the Sixteenth International Conference of the Movement for a New Museology, MINOM-ICOM, held in Havana from 6 to 11 October 2014; and it is the result of personal experiences of the Director of the Museum of Matachín, Baracoa (Cuba), which has operated for 32 years without interruption, adding unique experiences that began when museums were opened in all municipalities of Cuba by Law 23 of the National Assembly of People's Power.

Since its start - and through all these years - Matachín Museum has made a significant contribution to the Cuban community museology because of the hard work that, in the case of Baracoa where 95% of the township is mountainous and inaccessible, they have visited the most remote schools and all peasants living in these remote places.
