Abstract

The context of the second half of the eighteen centuries in with Francisco Morazán lived, was of big economical, political and ideological changes: the enlightenment era, the English industrial revolution, the Independence of the United States and the French revolution. Although he did not have a formal education, he was a great self-taught who learn to read in French and Spanish word history, economics, and political theory, especially liberal and democratic values. His early relationship with important people such as León Vásquez, Dionisio de Herrera and priest Francisco Antonio Márquez, were quite relevant for building his personality and liberal and democratic commitment.

His early friendships and political dealings with figures such as the lawyer León Vásquez, Dionisio
de Herrera, and the liberal priest Francisco Antonio Márquez would be fundamental in shaping his character and his democratic and liberal ideological outlook. The name of his revolutionary
militia against the dictatorship established in 1826, “Ejército Aliado Protector de la Ley” (Allied Army
Protector of the Law), speaks volumes in this regard. Dispite his faith in persuasion instead of the use of force, he did not betray his political values: liberalism and unity of Central América until the end of his life.
