The origin of the symbol of medicine

Abstract

The symbolism is one of the most archaic forms of language in human thought. A symbol is the artistic expression of an idea in common; and in medicine, as in other sciences, symbolism is part of the language for effective communication. Currently, there are two representative symbols of medicine that have been confused over a century by a misinterpretation. The intent of this article is to clear up confusion about the true origin of the symbol of medicine.
