Pelvic floor dysfunctions have a high incidence in the female population, within these prolapses stand out uterine, vaginal vault, enterocele, cystoceles, retoceles, urinary and fecal incontinence. It is estimated that 3% to 6% of the female population will develop some of these dysfunctions at some point in their lives.
Objective: To determine the knowledge and care that women in the reproductive and non-reproductive stages have to prevent pelvic organ prolapse at the Miguel Paz Barahona Health Center (CSMPB) in San Pedro Sula in the first semester of 2018.
Patients and methods: Quantitative, cross-sectional, descriptive study, questionnairetype instrument applied to women in the reproductive and non- reproductive stages in the CSMPB, during the first semester of 2018. Population 1766, probabilistic sample: 316 women.
Results: 55% of the population was between 20-35 years of age, 58% did not perform physical exercise, more than 90% were unaware of pelvic organ prolapse and its care, 19.2% presented signs and symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse.
Conclusions: The results indicate that the majority of women have little knowledge about pelvic organ prolapse and a percentage present symptoms, therefore, they do not take care to prevent some type. of prolapse in the course of their life.
