Abstract

Due to the alarming magnitude of the low adherence to treatments for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) reported in recent years, it is considered a public health problem worldwide and a challenge for health professionals and the scientific community. Several investigations have focused on medication adherence, however, therapeutic adherence also encompasses numerous health-related behaviors that go beyond taking prescribed medications. It is worth mentioning that efforts have been made focused on this problem and factors associated with low adherence have been identified, ranging from pharmacological and non-pharmacological factors.
