Access to health in children under 5 years of age during the Covid-19 pandemic and hurricanes in Honduras 2021

Abstract

It is estimated that global infant mortality could inerease for the first in more that 60 years due to indirect effects on child nutritional status and lack of access to basic health service. There is also alarming evidence is several countries about non compliance with vaccination schedules. Objective: To know the access of health care services to control growth and development of pandemic in children under the age of 5 years old located at health center "Jose Trinidad Moreno" of Lima in the second period of 2021. Patients and methods: Quantitative, cross-sectional descriptive study in children of both genres under 5 years of age who attended the "José Trinidad Moreno" CIS in Lima. Population/Sample: non-probabilistic convenience sample of 90 children. Results: 41% (37) of the children were between 1 and 6 months old, 29% (26) were between 6 months and 1year old, 17% (15) from 2 years to 4 years, 12 months,11% (10) 1 year and one day to 18 months and 2% (2) of 18 to 24 months. 89% (80) they used to be a complete and almost 11% (10) incomplete. 59% (66) had had access to the health care center, 18% (20) to private medical centers (Hospitals), 13% (14) others, 7% (8) To IHSS (Honduras social security Institute), 4% to HMCR (Mario catarino's Hospital). 64% (58) used to have access to development and growth programs and the 36% (32) not. Conclusion: Due to pandemic health care services were affected, this has lead society to created strategies like: Medical assistance through the phone, digital platforms and modifications in PAI in order to reduce losses in programs.
