Characterization of drug use by college students of basic health sciences

Drug is a substance of various origins that after ingestion, produces changes in the state of consciousness, mood, perceptions, physical and mental performance. Objective: To establish the prevalence of drug use in students of Basic Sciences College of Health Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Honduras, Valle de Sula (EUCS-UNAH / VS) in the first half of 2015. Materials Methods: descriptive, crosssectional, the universe consisted of 1005 students studying the subjects of basic health sciences, a stratified sample of 278 students who agreed to participate voluntarily, who were applied a survey consisted was taken 21 questions, 4 open and 17 closed, the results were analyzed in SPSS. Results: Found that 80 (29%) they consumed some kind of drugs, including; Alcohol 39 (48.8%), marijuana 8 (10%). In addition it was found that 43 students (53.8%) did at home. As for careers distribicuón found that of the 143 medical students 49 (34%) used drugs, dental 80 19 (24%) and practiced nursing 55 12 (22%) also consumed some of these substances. Conclusions: A high percentage of students in basic health sciences consume any drugs mainly alcohol, this being common practice among young people in a career in medicine and performing it more often at home.
