According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), there are over 313 million occupational accidents worldwide every year, with at least 350.000 people dying yearly due to them. Objective: This study aims to describe the knowledge about occupational health in industrial mechanical technician last year students of the Jesús María Rodríguez Insti- tute (ITJMR) in Chinda, Santa Bárbara in May of 2017, in order to generate information for further improvement of the understanding of the topic in this population. Patients and Methods: A qualitative researchaction study was carried out, with a population of N=8 students (all men). In order to collect the information, a focal group was performed with a methodological guide as instrument. Results: All of the interviewees did not know the term occupational health and only one of them could define ergonomics. In addition, the entire population agreed that work could lead to health problems in the future, thus everyone knew about and practiced occupational safety measures, but were reluctant to see that workplace accidents could have an impact on the development of the country. Conclusion: Despite not being able to elaborate the requested definitions, students practiced occupational health to a certain extent without being aware of it. Recommendation: Conduct an Occupational Health Seminar of obligatory attendance for students of all years studying the technical bachelor's degree in industrial mechanics of ITJMR, as well as other technician institutes nationwide.
