Action that man performs to prevent pregnancy against the Zika virus

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Zika virus is “a mosquito borne flavivirus that was first identified in Macacos, Uganda 1947 through a yellow fever monitoring network. Objective: To identify the actions that the male employees, of the National Autonomous University of Honduras in the Valley of Sula (UNAH-VS), performs for the prevention of pregnancy against the Zika virus during the second half of 2016. Patients and methods Exploratory, descriptive quantitative study. Population 29 men, sample 28. Questionnaire type instrument, with prior informed consent. Results: 61% (17) were of reproductive age (20-35 years), 96% (27) were sexually active, 14% (4) were aware that the Zika virus remains in the man's semen, 89% (25) knew that the Zika virus in pregnancy causes microcephaly in the newborn, 11% (3) no, 21% (6) use some method to prevent pregnancy with their partner, 79% (22) do not use contraceptives and 83% (23) do not know how long to abstain without protection in sexual relations. Conclusion: The results indicate that the maintenance staff of the UNAH-VS, does not know that the virus time after the pathology remains in the semen of the man; therefore do not take preventive measures against possible pregnancy.
