Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is defined as an acute, febrile and self-limiting inflammation, lasts approximately two to four weeks, affects the skin and mucous membranes, can be lethal. It is characterized by potentially fatal reactions resulting in hypersensitivity of triggers such as: infections by viruses, fungi, bacteria, connective tissue diseases, malignant neoplasms, vaccines or medications.
