KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDES AND PRACTICES OF HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS IN SAN JOSE DE BOQUERÓN, JULY 2018

Hypertension is a mayor cause of disability and death around the world. Patient’s knowledge is an important factor for modifying wrong concepts and risks that makes up hypertension as a cardiovascular conditioner. Objective: To describe the attitudes, knowledge, and practices of hypertensive patients of the community of San José de Boquerón, San Pedro Sula in the month of july 2018. Method: descriptive study of quantitative cross-section during the month of july of the year 2018. The sample was of 30 patients with arterial hypertension, selected through non-probabilistic sampling for convenience. The data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2016. Results: 76.7% of the patients were women and 64% were > 60 years old. Of the 30 patients, 50% knew about arterial hypertension. 56.7% of patients report that home treatments outperform medications. 10% consider that their salt intake was a lot. 36.7% do not follow any diet and 60% do not perform at least 30 minutes of exercise. Conclusions: The knowledge in the population of San Jose de Boquerón community was adequate, nevertheless, the knowledge about arterial hypertension and the normal blood pressure parameters are still unsatisfactory. There is a positive attitude of patients towards assisting to medical consultation, but the opposite is true about their trust in medicaments. The greater deficit was found in practices of diet and exercise.
