Objective: To identify risk factors associated with the development of hypertension in adults attending the San Miguel Comprehensive Health Center in Honduras. Method: A quantitative study was conducted using a descriptive and prospective case-control design. Data were collected through a structured survey of a sample of 159 participants (53 cases with hypertension and 106 controls without hypertension) at the San Miguel Comprehensive Health Center in Honduras. The survey instrument consisted of 5 sections: sociodemographic data, personal medical history, family medical history, lifestyle, and dietary habits. Results: The study revealed a high prevalence of hypertension in a young population (19-29 years) at the San Miguel Comprehensive Health Center. Physical inactivity and excessive consumption of salt, sugar, and fats were identified as significant risk factors. Conclusions: A strong association was found between personal medical history and hypertension, while family medical history did not show a significant association. The study highlights the need for specific interventions, including the promotion of physical activity and healthy eating habits, to prevent hypertension and its complications.
