Abstract

El presente ensayo examina críticamente la afirmación según la cual la declaración de independencia de 1821 sería la culminación de un proceso que habría iniciado con los hechos del 5 de noviembre de 1811. Más que de un “primer grito de independencia” de 1811, que sería el antecedente necesario de 1821, sería más apropiado hablar de un creciente sentimiento de autonomía por parte de los grupos criollos de la provincia de San Salvador.
