Abstract

With the recognition that El Salvador is one of the countries with more economic freedoms in Latin America, the question arises of whether the dynamics of trading can be a damaging factor for the generation of formal employment and for the evolution of real wages. This article aims to highlight the impacts of trade liberalization on employment and real wages in El Salvador. Assuming that the structural problems within a country are expressed in international trade, it is important to reflect on the relevance of maintaining the basis of economic liberalization of the economy in El Salvador, which is characterized by little to boost domestic investment, insufficient productive infrastructure, low-skilled labor force, among other things.
