Abstract

Soap operas accomplish social functions that were accomplished in the past by other cultural products that were closely linked to certain social practices. Its functions have a remarked mediatized character and are supported by a media platform that has not been democratized and is free from public regulations. Thus, soap operas are, for this reason, an important source for understanding how our societies are configured.
