Abstract

This study aims to analyze the cultural mechanisms that rural communities in two nature reserves in Nicaragua: Chocoyero-the Wizard and Miraflor- Moropotente have development for the use, management and conservation of natural resources in their environments. For the realization of it was carried out a literature review on the topic of specialized texts and empirical evidence related to the communities. They are characterized by an important reservoir of natural resources that are used in the development of livelihood strategies. Rural families have a wide knowledge on ways to use these natural resources and how to achieve sustainability of the same. But the capitalist market and the articulation of producers to market through items such as pineapple and potato, has gradually changed the logic of economic institutions defined historically by the communities that are the guarantors of the conservation of natural resources. Both the market and the process of urbanization constitute a potential threat to the communities.
