Ten years after the reforms to the telecommunications sector were completed, the 2016 Global Information Technology Report, published by the World Economic Forum, leaves Nicaragua in an undesirable position. The problem, beyond pointing to the prevailing market structure, also points to the regulatory public modality adopted to intervene in the sector. In this sense and making use of a bibliographic review of the existing literature, the self-regulation of the industry emerges as an interesting proposal within the new forms of regulatory governance and conveniently treatable from the perspective of game theory.
