Background: Sepsis and septic shock is one of the leading causes of in-hospital death in pediatric patients.
Objective: Generate a literatura review on sepsis in pediatric patients.
Methodology: A selection of literature was carried out in PubMed in the period 2018-2023, a total of 17 full-text references with the greatest influence on new contributions, consensus and controversies about sepsis in pediatric patients were selected. Highlights. The diagnosis of sepsis in pediatrics is difficult because there is no gold standard, the three main elements of management include hemodynamic stabilization, infection control and regulation of septic reactions.
Conclusion: Current advances in the conceptualization of sepsis highlight the importance of early detection and timely intervention to improve clinical outcome and decrease the risk of death in pediatric patients.
