The text presents the results and discussion of an investigation on the taste for reading poetry among Hispanic Language and Literature students. A high percentage of preference for reading in general was identified, although most students showed a preference for narrative over poetry. Only five students enjoy reading poetry, which led to exploring their perceptions and topics of interest. The complexity of poetry, its subjectivity and lack of understanding among young people is discussed, as well as the low preference for erotic poetry, possibly due to taboos and confusions with pornography. The need to promote a broader understanding and deeper appreciation of poetry among students is suggested.
