Abstract

This paper presents the derivative suffixes that express repetition or frequency in Spanish in Central America. We have taken the corpus of the slogans of the Dictionary of Americanisms (2010) and of the Linguistic Atlases of Central America (Nicaragua, 2010; Panama, 2010; Costa Rica, 2010; El Salvador, 2011; Honduras, 2014, and Guatemala, currently in press). This study showed that the suffix -dera is used more frequently throughout the region. With respect to the functions performed, the following were also recorded: –ero / a, -da, -dor, -ón with its variants (-ción ~ zón); -al, -eo, -eta, -ncio, -nto e -icio. With respect to the values performed, it is observed that in addition to the frequency, achievement and repetition, a clear pejorative and ironic nuance is manifested in the majority.
